Hey everyone,
Welcome to the October edition of Kerine’s Corner! If you haven’t guessed it already, this blog now takes the place of our monthly newsletter — so check back here for all the latest Together We Ride CIC (TWR) news, ride updates, and community highlights.
September felt like it flew by in a blur. With the seasons shifting, the days are getting shorter and the weather a little greyer, but our wheels haven’t stopped turning. From local community rides to growing connections across London and beyond, it’s been a month full of energy and momentum..
Dominica Update
A big shout-out to Tony, who recently took a personal trip to Dominica — and of course, he couldn’t resist linking up with the cycling community while he was there. He met up with Maydine and her amazing cycling family, and by the looks of it, they had an absolute blast tackling the island’s famous hills.
The trip wasn’t just about riding, though. Tony also helped spread an important message around prostate cancer awareness, bringing over a few special prostate cancer jerseys to gift to Maydine and her team.
For those who don’t know, Maydine is based in Dominica and has been doing incredible work supporting young people, encouraging them to take up cycling and stay active.
She’s a true force of positivity on and off the bike. You can catch some of her adventures and community impact on the TWR Instagram page, where she’s kindly shared highlights of her journey.
North Weald Airfield Ride
Fitzroy led a small but spirited group through the scenic lanes of Epping Forest on a ride to North Weald Airfield. It turned out to be one of the rare sunny days of the month, and the group made the most of it — enjoying the open roads, fresh air, and that late-summer warmth we all crave before autumn really sets in.
The airfield itself has a rich history, once serving as a fighter station during World War II, and today it remains a landmark steeped in heritage. Riding there as a group gave everyone a sense of connection — not only to each other, but also to the story of the place.
Big thanks to Fitz for stepping up and leading the ride. It’s these kinds of outings — smaller, local adventures with good company and good weather — that really capture the spirit of the TWR: community, exploration, and joy on two wheels.
Shout-out to everyone who joined Mr Harvey Hills for the recent ride out to Leith Hill. As anyone who’s ridden with Harvey before knows, if his name is attached to the route, you can be sure there will be some serious climbing involved!
This particular ride did not disappoint — the route stacked up an elevation of around 3,300 ft, making it a proper test of endurance and grit. Leith Hill itself, the highest point in Southeast England, is a bucket-list climb for many cyclists, and it delivered the full package: steep gradients, rolling countryside, and those rewarding views once you reach the top.
While Harvey has a reputation for plotting routes that aren’t for the faint-hearted, the challenge is exactly what makes them so memorable. Each climb becomes a shared battle, and each summit a shared victory.
A huge congratulations to all who took part and conquered the hills. These rides remind us that pushing past limits is part of the journey — and doing it together is what makes it special.
As the colder months creep in, we’ve reintroduced our North and South London hill sessions — the perfect way to keep the legs spinning, stay warm, and hold on to all the gains we made through spring and summer.
Hill work can feel brutal at times, but it’s one of the best ways to build strength, stamina, and climbing confidence. Tackling these routes together adds that extra push — there’s nothing like seeing your crew grinding it out alongside you, spurring each other on, and sharing that moment of triumph at the top.
A big shout-out to Dean, who led the most recent South London hills ride. The session included leg-burners like Cannonbie Road (about 16% at its steepest) and various hills in Sydnam & Crystal Palace, which packed a punch. Put a few of those back-to-back and you’ve got yourself a session that tests both body and mind. It was tough, but a perfect way to open the winter season and set benchmarks for progress.
Up the north side of London, we tackled the iconic Swains Lane climb — short but savage, with gradients hitting 18% in parts and an elevation gain of around 70 metres over just 900 metres of road. It’s a London classic, often used by pros and locals alike to measure climbing fitness. Pair it with a loop around Highgate and you’ve got a workout that leaves no legs untested.
These sessions aren’t about racing each other — they’re about resilience, growth, and building a stronger base for the months ahead. By the time spring rolls around, the work we’ve put in on these hills will pay off tenfold.
We’ve got a packed schedule of rides this month, so make sure to check out our event listings on Heylo and Strava for all the latest updates and group rides. Whether you’re a regular rider or new to the TWR family, there’s something for everyone to join in on.
October – Black History Month & Community Cycling
October is always a special month for TWR, and this year it feels even bigger. Not only are we celebrating Black History Month, but we’re also celebrating five years since our very first organised ride.
Back in 2020, we rolled through the heart of London for our debut group outing — stopping at historic landmarks, places, and spaces where people of colour have had a lasting impact. That ride became the foundation of what TWR is today: a diverse, inclusive, and joyful cycling community built around connection, resilience, and shared stories.
This October, we return to those roots with our flagship event:
🚴🏾♀️ Saturday 25th October – TWR’s Annual Black History Month Ride
📍 Start: Windrush Square, Brixton (09:00 meet | 09:15 roll-out)
🏁 Finish: Bikesoup West London (White City)
✨ In collaboration with AfriCap Apparel + Bikesoup
🎉 Celebrating 5 years of Together We Ride CIC
This ride is open to all cyclists — so tell a friend to tell a friend, and come ride with us. Together, we’ll honour the past, celebrate the present, and ride into the future.

Watch your tyre pressure. Colder air lowers pressure in your tubes, and wet or leaf-covered roads can get slippery fast. Running slightly lower pressure than in summer (without risking pinch flats) will give you better grip and control. Combine that with regular checks for debris, and you’ll stay safer — and more confident — through autumn’s tricky conditions.
Let’s keep the wheels turning through every season — rain, wind, or shine.Catch you out on the road 🚴🏽♀️– Kerine
