Join TWR for the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton Bike Ride
Every year, TWR takes part in one of the UK’s most iconic cycling events — the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton Bike Ride. Covering 54–55 miles from the heart of London to the vibrant Brighton seafront, this legendary route offers a perfect mix of city streets, rolling countryside, and unforgettable challenges — all in support of life‑saving heart research.
London to Brighton
It’s more than just a ride. It’s an adventure, a community, and a test of determination — open to cyclists of all levels.
The Journey from London to Brighton
We start at Clapham Common, where thousands of riders gather in the early morning buzz. The opening miles wind through London’s lively streets before the scenery opens into the picturesque Surrey and Sussex countryside. Along the way, you’ll pass through characterful villages, soak in the atmosphere, and enjoy plenty of opportunities to refuel and connect with fellow riders.
Turners Hill – A Charming Midway Milestone
Around halfway, the route climbs gently into the village of Turners Hill. This is a traditional pause point where cyclists catch their breath, enjoy the friendly atmosphere, and perhaps grab a snack before pushing on. From here, you can look back proudly at the distance covered and forward to the challenges ahead. Turners Hill isn’t just a physical landmark — it’s a morale boost and a reminder of the camaraderie that makes this event special
The Legendary Ditchling Beacon
The final and most famous challenge awaits just before Brighton — Ditchling Beacon. This climb is the ride’s defining moment:
Brighton
Distance: 0.9 miles (1.45 km) • Height Gain: 143 m (456 ft) • Average Gradient: 9% • Max Gradient: 16%
The winding road tests even experienced riders, but the reward is powerful — panoramic South Downs views opening up as you crest the summit. The Beacon has even featured in the Tour de France and Tour of Britain, but on ride day you’ll be sharing the climb with a sea of determined charity cyclists, cheered on by supporters lining the route. Whether you ride it without stopping or simply grit your teeth to reach the top, the achievement is unforgettable. And from there, it’s an exhilarating downhill sprint into Brighton.
The Big Finish
The final descent into Brighton is pure joy — wind in your face, adrenaline pumping, and the sea glinting in the distance. You’ll cross the finish line on Madeira Drive, just steps from the pier, greeted by cheering supporters. Most of us celebrate in true Brighton style — with fish and chips, a coffee, or even a dip in the sea. Some of TWR’s more determined riders have even cycled the return journey to London the same day!
